Theresa Tuton is currently completing a Doctorate in Psychology. She previously graduated with a Master's Degree in Social Work, majoring in children and families, from the University of Southern California and completed a 2-year Postgraduate Fellowship at the Reiss-Davis Child Study Center in Los Angeles, specializing in child, adolescent, and family psychodynamic psychotherapy.
She works with children, adults, and couples.
Theresa began her work with children in the mid-90s in her native Australia after gaining an Associate’s Diploma in Drama and worked in schools. She spent several years working with children and adults in Japan and, after several years working in London, branched out to include yoga and developed programs to bond children and parents in Los Angeles. Along the way, she has worked with children and families in Cambodia, Chile, Argentina, and Trinidad & Tobago, and has traveled to around 60 countries.
Theresa has worked for Didi Hirsch's Suicide Prevention Center and several Community Mental Health locations in Los Angeles. She volunteers in grief and loss support groups. When she's not working or studying, you can find her hiking with her Australian kelpie, skiing, and mountain biking around Lake Tahoe.
Theresa's style is about listening and gaining a deep understanding of what brought you—or your family—to her, with respect and empathy. She gently challenges by asking the hard questions, but don't worry, she'll help you and go at your pace.
